I agree with you. It isn't the end of the world if you can't get an agent. If you have the time to do your own work, then the end product will be good. That's not to say that you might not have to fix things. I have had to fix mishaps from time to time. However, if you work hard you can make it. At least that is the American Dream, and the phrase that we use right? We tell people that hard work pays off so what makes the self published author any different? It's about working hard, and having drive. As long as you do both things you will get good end results.
